With over twenty years on the road and fifteen
albums to his name, Nova Scotia’s Dave Gunning is
one of Canada’s most respected and engaging folk
singer-songwriters. A multiple ECMA and Canadian
Folk Music Award winner, he’s known for his warm
stage presence, sharp wit, and songs that honour
everyday heroes while speaking honestly about the
world around us.
Deeply rooted in Pictou County, Gunning’s music
reflects the stories of working people, small-town
resilience, and community pride. His performances
blend heartfelt storytelling with perfectly timed
humour, creating an easy rapport that feels genuine,
self-effacing, and deeply human.
Gunning has shared stages with legends like Ron
Hynes, Rita MacNeil, and Matt Andersen, yet he
continues to forge his own path, grounded in
craftsmanship and connection. His upcoming album,
Field Notes—recorded in Point Lonsdale, Australia and
set for release in 2026—returns to the stripped-back,
emotionally rich songwriting that has long defined
his work.
