Black Umfolosi is a self-taught a cappella and traditional dance group from Zimbabwe, renowned for their powerful performances of imbube singing, gumboot, and Zulu dance. Formed in 1982 by schoolmates hoping to uplift their community, the group has since become global cultural ambassadors, touring extensively across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
Their shows are rich in rhythm, harmony, and movement—blending dynamic choreography with soulful vocals and vivid storytelling. From representing Zimbabwe at Expo 1992 in Spain to the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Canada, Black Umfolosi has shared the heart of Southern African tradition with audiences around the World.
More than performers, they are passionate preservers of culture. Their mission: to celebrate, share, and pass on the traditions of Southern Africa to global audiences. Every performance is a joyful, moving experience—full of spirit, cultural pride, and infectious energy.
