The Bitterest Time: The War Story of Mona Parsons$25
The Bitterest Time – the war story of Mona Parsons tells the dramatic and true story of Canada’s unrecognized war hero: the only Canadian female civilian imprisoned by the Nazis during WWII. Her crime? Helping Allied airmen, shot down over the Occupied Netherlands, to return to England. As punishment, she served over three years of hard labour until her escape in March 1945. After three weeks walking across Germany, exchanging labour for food and shelter – all while disguised as a mentally-challenged woman with a speech impediment – she finally crossed into the Netherlands, where she encountered the North Nova Scotia Highlanders.
