Coppélia- Northumberland Youth Ballet$10 - $15
Coppélia is a charming comedic tale of mistaken identity. One of the world’s oldest ballets, the original production was choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to the music of Léo Delibes in 1870.
The ballet is about a girl named Coppélia who sits on her balcony all day reading and never speaking to anyone. A boy named Franz falls deeply in love with her and wants to marry her, even though he has already promised to marry another. His fiance, Swanhilda, sees Franz admiring Coppélia. Swanhilda learns that Coppélia is actually a doll that belongs to mysterious Doctor Coppélius, the doll maker.
Swanhilda and her friends venture into the toy shop. Doctor Coppélius believes he can bring the dolls to life with magic. Swanhilda decides to impersonate the doll, in order to win the love of Franz. Chaos ensues, but all is soon forgiven. Swanhilda and Franz make up and get married.
The Northumberland Youth Ballet is excited to perform Coppélia for the first time in 2019. This lighthearted production is suitable for the whole family.
There are two performances. A matinee at 2:00 PM & an evening performance at 7:00 PM.
